ALBUM LAUNCH
This is my account of the launch, held at the Cat and Fiddle Hotel
in May 2003... enjoy!!
As it happened the printing of the CD would be finished on the day of my birthday and so I planned the launch that very weekend 10th May 2003. This was the first full album and launch I had ever tried to organise, so I was very busy. My partner Mike kindly accepted to be door person and my good friend Behiye said she would start the night off with her beautiful voice and music.
When I got to the gig Behiye's muso's had started setting up and quite a lot of people had already arrived. Seeing friends and family I hadn't expected to come, I began my "hello's" "thanks for coming" and "how are you's". Then more friends arrived, the room started to fill up, people began giving me presents for my birthday (which I had almost forgotten about), band members arrived and I began to feel rather over whelmed in all the excitement of the launch.
Behiye and her band had started to play whilst all this was happening and despite the chaos I enjoyed some lovely snippets of her songs, bringing me back to earth. Behiye's music always touches my heart, as she sings out words of life and truth. I felt very fortunate to be hearing music that was so inspiring right before I was to get on stage. The room was jam packed by the time they finished, I was so happy with the turn out, every time I turned around I bumped into someone I hadn't said hello to yet.
"Shells" at that time consisted of Laurie on djembe and percussion, Lisa on cello, Shane on violin, Tom swapping between lead and rhythm guitar and me singing, playing guitar and egg shaker!! Being such an important night I had organised for Anna to come up as a special guest and the two of us played a few of the old songs off the "Dragontears" EP. Another special guest was Angus James on keyboard for the song "Rochelle".
We played two 45-minutes sets which included the ten tracks off the album and some new songs we all love playing. The five of us were having a really good time on stage, it felt very comfortable, we had all been playing together for a year and I felt honored to be on stage with these four amazing musicians.
Once we finished there was a constant stream of friends saying
goodbyes and people asking us to autograph their CD... this
was certainly my first ever CD signing, I was both touched and amused!
This night shines out in my memory. It was certainly one of the
best experiences of my life, to sing to a room packed full of friends
and family, sharing a stage with such great people and doing what
I love. I feel so grateful to all the people who helped make the
CD happen.
